LUS Fiber Outside Installation

I'm behind on my LUS Fiber reporting...I've tried something new: here's a Flicker set "illustrated story" of the outside part of my installation.

Long story short: the outside installationg went smoothly and took about 2 hours; that seemed like a pretty quick install considering all that they did; that they were still getting used to the process and were training a new guy.

The slideshow story is embedded below. You can just play it--but that won't be very interesting since the descriptive narrative won't be visible. To get the story start the show, mouse to the bottom left to show the controls and pause the show, the click on the expand button that appears at lower right hand corner, go to the upper right and turn on "show info" to get the narration. Then you click through the nice big images and read the story...Or you could take the easy way out and just jump to the standard page and read the story while looking at the photos in the regular way.

LUS Fiber had a booth at AHBA BluePrints Show last weekend. When I passed it appeared to be very busy.

Hi,

I thought about going but didn't get my act together...wasn't motivated by much besides the fiber. I presume you were there for your business. Did you get a chance to check in on the LUS booth? I'd love a report from you or anyone...

Thanks for the slideshow John.
LUS is finally digging in my area so I'm getting a little more excited and I'm hoping that I get the fiber-ready card soon after they finish.
You may have posted this somewhere and I apologize for asking again if so, but from the time you called in to set everything up, how long does it seem the total installation will take? And when they do the outside install, can you get cable at least or do you have to wait for the inside install before you get any services?

Sorry John. There was no way I was going to stop there :) But it was impressive enough that I could see in just a few seconds that the space was attractive, that it appeared to be well-staffed, and that it was getting attention from show-goers. I didn't see such action at the Cox booth.

Speed,

Go ahead and get excited. Remember how Christmas used to feel...couldn't wait, wanted to see, thought you knew maybe what it'd be like the day after but weren't sure. It's like a good Christmas...and half the fun is the anticipation.

From the first call to the first time I watched some monster page flash up took right at 3 weeks in my case. I suspect that it'll be faster when they get fully ramped up and more confident that things are working smoothly enough that some problem won't really embarass them. Right now things are very measured. I think they'll shorten that lead time but it's actually a lot of work and I can imagine that many homes will take longer to rework than mine did.

The outside install leaves the setup unpowered. —They power it from household current. So until that second visit nothing works. Sadly. I'd have been happy to bring the cat 5 in myself. :-)

GumboFile,

Aw you shoulda stopped. A little mortification's good for the character. ;-)

I'm not surprised they were getting action...they're the new kid in town and local to boot. They'll have to earn next year's enthusiasm.
